Dubai's climate is not gentle on building materials, and signage is no exception — sustained heat, strong UV and, near the coast, salt-laden humidity all affect materials differently. Here's how the common options actually hold up outdoors.

Aluminium composite panel (ACP)

The default choice for board signage, and for good reason — flat, rigid, resistant to warping in heat, and it takes paint or vinyl cleanly. Solid all-round durability outdoors at a reasonable cost.

Acrylic

UV-stabilised acrylic holds its colour and clarity for years outdoors. It's less rigid than metal, though, so larger pieces generally need a supporting frame or backing rather than standing on their own.

Aluminium and stainless steel

Both resist corrosion well. Stainless steel is the stronger performer in coastal or high-humidity spots, while aluminium is lighter and more cost-effective anywhere extreme corrosion resistance isn't strictly necessary.

Vinyl and printed media

Good for graphics and shorter to medium-term signage, though even UV-resistant vinyl fades faster than solid materials under constant direct sun — south and west-facing installations feel this fastest.

Wood

Gives a warmer, more distinctive look than metal or acrylic, but needs proper sealing and more regular upkeep to cope with Dubai's heat and humidity.
